There are moments in life when something begins to stir quietly within us.
Not a new ambition.
Not a fresh career path.
But a deep, unmistakable sense that God is drawing attention to something that matters to His heart.
For us, that stirring has centred around one simple but profound conviction:
God is calling His Church to recognise and release the strength of its older generation.
Over the years, we have watched countless faithful believers reach what the world calls “retirement age” and slowly step back from active involvement in the life of the church. Sometimes this happens by choice. Often it happens by assumption. Occasionally, it happens because no clear pathway exists for continued purpose and contribution.
And yet, when we look at Scripture, we see no indication that usefulness in God’s Kingdom has an expiry date.
Instead, we see a generational God whose purposes unfold across lifetimes - a God who delights in using willing hearts at every stage of life.
One verse has remained particularly close to our hearts:
“He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children… to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
This Scripture speaks not only of reconciliation within families, but of restored connection across generations, a spiritual turning toward one another that prepares God’s people for what lies ahead.
We began to ask ourselves:
What might this look like within the life of the church today?
What might happen if older and younger believers were intentionally connected in ways that strengthened both?
What if the wisdom, faith, and experience of older believers were not simply honoured — but actively released?
From these questions, Prepare for Purpose began to take shape.
Seeing the Untapped Treasure
Wherever we have travelled and ministered, we have encountered the same quiet reality:
Churches are filled with faithful men and women who have walked with God for decades, people who carry wisdom, resilience, and lived faith. Yet many of them feel that their season of meaningful contribution has passed.
At the same time, younger generations are navigating an increasingly complex world and are often searching for guidance, encouragement, and spiritual anchoring.
The resource is already present within the church.
The connection is what is often missing.
We began to see the older generation not as a group in need of maintenance, but as a vast and largely untapped resource for strengthening the whole body of Christ.
We began referring to them as Legends — not to elevate them above others, but to honour the depth of experience and faith they carry.
A lifetime of walking with God creates a reservoir of wisdom that is meant to be shared, not set aside.
Raising an Army of Legends
Prepare for Purpose was born from a simple but powerful vision:
To see an army of willing older believers encouraged, equipped, and released into renewed purpose as spiritual mothers and fathers within the church.
This is not about creating a new programme.
It is not about adding another ministry to an already full church calendar.
It is about recognising what God has already placed within the church — and helping to bring it to life.
When older believers rediscover their ongoing calling:
purpose is reignited
confidence grows
availability increases
and the whole church begins to benefit
When younger believers connect with those who have walked ahead of them:
perspective deepens
faith is strengthened
resilience grows
and relationships form that cannot be replicated by teaching alone
And when church leaders begin to see this potential clearly, something shifts within the culture of the church itself.
A deeper sense of shared family begins to emerge.
Our Own Journey of Refiring
As we entered our own later years, we found ourselves reflecting on what continued faithfulness might look like in this season. We had no desire to simply “wind down.” Instead, we sensed a strong call to invest what we have learned into strengthening the church for the generations to come.
Prepare for Purpose is not theory for us.
It is a continuation of our own journey.
We have seen first-hand the fruit that emerges when older believers are encouraged and equipped to remain available to God. We have witnessed the joy that returns when purpose is rediscovered. And we have watched churches become more deeply connected when generations begin to engage with one another intentionally.
This has only strengthened our conviction that God is doing something significant in this area — something gentle, but deeply important.
Preparing a People Together
The name Prepare for Purpose reflects what we believe God is inviting His Church into.
Preparation is not limited to one generation.
Purpose is not reserved for a particular age group.
Both belong to the whole body of Christ.
As older and younger believers begin to walk together more intentionally:
wisdom is released.
faith is strengthened.
unity grows
and the church becomes more whole.
A Quiet Invitation
Perhaps as you read this, something resonates.
You may be someone entering a later season of life and wondering what continued purpose might look like.
You may be a church leader sensing that deeper intergenerational connection could strengthen your congregation.
Or you may simply feel drawn to the idea of a more unified, mutually supportive church family.
Wherever you find yourself, we encourage you to hold this question gently before the Lord:
What might it look like for the generations within our church to walk more closely together?
Sometimes the most meaningful shifts begin not with large plans, but with renewed perspective — a willingness to see one another differently and to recognise the gifts already present among us.
Because when hearts turn toward one another across generations, something powerful begins to take place:
A people is quietly prepared.
A church grows stronger.
And purpose continues to unfold in every season of life.
