Prepare for Purpose: South Africa
Bridging the Generational Gap in the Church

We partner with church leadership to equip & mobilise the older generation as spiritual mothers and fathers - strengthening unity, discipleship, and care across the whole church family.
As churches rightly invest in children, youth, and young adults, the older generation is often unintentionally moved into a season of care and maintenance, rather than one of ongoing purpose and contribution.
This sidelines one of your greatest resources - the spiritual mothers and fathers with a lifetime of lived experience.
What We Do
Prepare for Purpose exists to help churches recognise, equip, and mobilise their Legends - the 60+ generation - as active contributors to the life and health of the church.

We work with church leadership, not independently, to:
Reframe ageing as a season of continued calling, not retirement
Equip older believers to serve as spiritual mothers and fathers
Strengthen intergenerational connection without dismantling existing ministries
This is not about starting something new,
it's about activating what God has already placed within your church.
When older believers are equipped and released:

Pastoral care is strengthened through prayer, mentoring, and presence

Younger generations gain guidance rooted in lived faith, not merely online influence

Unity grows across life stages, reducing isolation and fragmentation

Older members rediscover purpose, fruitfulness, and spiritual vitality
The Church becomes healthier,
not by doing more, but by functioning more fully as a family.
Prepare for Purpose serves as a resource to local churches.
Each church retains ownership. We simply walk alongside, support, and equip.
The journey typically includes:

Vision Alignment
Prepare for Purpose meet up with church leadership to share the biblical vision of mobilising the older generation and strengthening intergenerational connection.
One-Day Seminar
A facilitated day involving church leadership, Legends, and key younger leaders — designed to challenge mindsets, stir faith, and create shared understanding.
Next-Step Guidance
Practical insight and support to help leadership discern how to create ongoing opportunities for connection, mentoring, and prayer within their own church context.
Our Mandate
“And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children… to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
— Luke 1:17
We believe God is restoring spiritual fathering and mothering in His Church — not as a nostalgic idea, but as a present-day necessity.

Meet the founders
Derek and Beryl Puffett have served in ministry for decades in South Africa, Africa at large and across the globe — as pioneers, pastors, counsellors, and mentors.
Now in their eighties, they continue to practice what they preach: that purpose does not retire, and fruitfulness does not expire.
Prepare for Purpose flows from their lived experience — a deep conviction that God still has much to release through those willing to say yes, regardless of age.
They are dedicating this season to helping churches build the blueprint for a thriving multi-generational movement.
